Cantor Ellen Schwab helps people celebrate life’s milestones and empowers them to navigate life’s transitions and challenges. Ellen officiates at life-cycle events, connects people to Jewish teachings, creates new rituals to commemorate milestones, empowers people to address and resolve transitions and challenges, and shares the joy of music for any occasion.


Ellen Schwab has nearly 30 years of cantorial experience.  She has served Temple Beth El and Center is San Pedro, California, Isaac M. Wise Temple in Cincinnati Ohio, Temple Beth El in San Mateo, California and Har Sinai Congregation in Baltimore Maryland.  She has helped congregants celebrate life-cycle events and manage transitions through challenging times.  Cantor Schwab has officiated at weddings, funerals, Shiva services, baby naming’s and Batei Din for conversion.  She has directed B’nai Mitzvah programs, tutored and mentored students, and pioneered a number of innovative educational programs, such as Family Education, Friends for Life, The Spirituality of Beauty and Women of the Bible discussion series. Musically, she has inspired congregations, lead professional choirs and instrumentalists, and performed as a soloist.

Cantor Schwab received her Cantorial training at Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles and studied privately with Cantor William Sharlin.  She studied Music and Education at San Diego State University and attended classes at Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem.

Ellen now studies voice with Dr. Thomas H. Houser.
